Pay VAT via Sage e-banking (UK only)

If you have submitted your VAT Return online, you must also pay your VAT online. You can do this from Sage 200 using the Sage e-banking service, or directly via the HMRC website.

To pay your VAT Return online

Open: Cash Book > Other Transactions > VAT Return Payment.

  1. Select the VAT Return you want to pay from the list.

Note: You will only be able select a VAT Return which was submitted online, with a Success submission status.

  2. Select the bank account that you want to use to pay your VAT Return from the Payment Bank Account drop-down list.

This defaults to the bank account selected in the Nominal Ledger settings.

  3. Select the VAT Liability Account from the drop-down list.

This defaults to the VAT Liability Account selected in the Nominal Ledger settings.

  4. The HMRC VAT Return reference Number and the Amount to Pay are taken from the submitted VAT Return and cannot be changed.
  5. Click Pay Now.
  6. Click Yes to process the payment and create the e-banking file.
  7. Use your bank's software to import the file and pay the HMRC.
